The Air Force is one of the toughest and most respected branches of the American military, and is home to the world famous and incredibly tough Air Force boot camp. Thousands of men and women each year enlist to protect their nation in the Air Force. One of the hardest challenges for those who enlist is the intensive Air Force boot camp that begins every enlistee’s training. Physical and mental training is all a part of what goes on in the boot camp sessions. Here is a brief guide to some of the specific training that goes on in an Air Force boot camp, and how you can prepare for the challenge:

Settling In: While the bulk of boot camp is an intensive regimen of training and physical exercise, a lot of the initial settling in revolves around paperwork and clothing. In fact, most new recruits begin their boot camp by receiving traditional camouflage wear and then receiving haircuts if they are necessary. Air Force boot camp was recently extended, meaning the entire program now lasts for 8 weeks instead of 6. New recruits will settle into their dormitories, have physical fitness tests and health exams and generally prepare for the beginning of their career in the Air Force.

Physical Fitness: Of course, the bulk of boot camp revolves around getting new Air Force recruits into peak physical condition so that they can serve and protect their country to their best of their abilities. At the beginning of boot camp, recruits will take a physical assessment test. At the end of boot camp, the same test will be administered in order to determine how much improvement was made, and a certain percentage must be met in order for Air Force recruits to graduate from boot camp. Running is a vital element of the regimen, but exercises like pull-ups, push-ups and sit-ups are also important in order to gain physical strength as well as aerobic endurance.

Preparing for Boot Camp: Whether you are getting ready to attend a Navy boot camp or Army boot camp, or perhaps just an exercise based fitness boot camp or adventure boot camp, some basic preparation will make the physical aspects much easier. Create an aerobic base by running 3 times per week, including some fast paced sprints each time.
